Mine Operations Superintendent
Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited (PMGL) is seeking a Mine Operations Superintendent.
Reporting to the Mining and Technical Services Department, this role will manage the Mining and Explosives contractors on a day-to-day basis to ensure the smooth implementation of both long and short term objectives and ensure that the process plant is consistently fed with the required tonnes and planned grades in a sustainable manner.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and strong contractor management across the mining operation.
- Coordinate with process plant, grade control geologists and mine planning to ensure crusher feed aligns with plan.
- Conduct and coordinate daily mining production meetings with mining contractors and technical staff.
- Conduct regular inspections of the Explosives Magazine, ensuring safety and security in full compliance with statutory regulations and company procedures.
- Direct the maintenance of all roads outside the operational mining areas.
- Develop and implement mining procedures.
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel in line with statutory and company requirements.
- Maintain discipline among mining production staff in accordance with HR guidelines.
- Implement weekly and monthly mining strategies in a cost-efficient manner.
- Liaise with Community Relations and Security teams to ensure uninterrupted mining operations.
- Manage all mining subcontractors on the mine.
- Oversee the mining contractor’s day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with quarterly, monthly, and weekly plans.
- Provide practical input into the weekly and monthly plans in liaison with the Short-Term Planner.
- Undertake other related duties as required by operational exigencies.
About You
We are looking for a proven mining professional with strong contractor management and production leadership experience, capable of delivering operational excellence in a dynamic environment.
To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in mining engineering. A master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
- Must have worked for a period of 8 years incorporating load and Haul, Drill and Blast on a surface mine operation.
- Must have a Mine Superintendent Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission.
- Proficiency in the use of Surpac, Minesched or similar software for short-term planning.
- A proven successful track record of leading teams and managing people
- Cost consciousness and ability to drive productivity improvement initiatives
- Must be able to read and execute mine plans and schedules
- Strong organisation, planning, negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills.
Where You’ll Be Working
Edikan Gold Mine is Perseus Mining’s first operation, located in Ghana’s Western Region. Commissioned in 2011, the mine has grown into a cornerstone of Perseus’s portfolio, with processing capacity expanded from 5.5Mtpa at design to 7.2Mtpa in 2016.
Today, Edikan produces between 180,000 and 220,000 ounces of gold annually. It is fully nationalised and operated entirely by Ghanaian employees, demonstrating Perseus’s long-term commitment to building local capability and delivering sustainable employment.
Ongoing optimisation and exploration activities are focused on extending mine life and ensuring Edikan continues to deliver strong returns and lasting value to host communities.
