The Role
Perseus Mining Yaouré is seeking an Underground Drill and Blast Engineer to join our Technical Services team. Based at Yaouré Underground, this role is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling and blasting operations. You will play a key part in optimising ore extraction, ensuring designs are technically sound, and maintaining strict compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role is responsible for:
- Designing and implementing drill and blast plans in line with geotechnical and production requirements
- Optimising stope layouts and blasting strategies to maximise recovery and minimise dilution
- Preparing detailed designs, schedules, and drill patterns for underground development and production
- Monitoring drill and blast activities to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards
- Working closely with geology, mining, and operations teams to deliver accurate and timely outcomes
- Providing technical support and mentoring to drill and blast crews
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced underground mining engineer with strong technical knowledge of drill and blast practices. You will be committed to safety, ensuring all work is planned and executed to the highest standards while supporting incident-free operations. You will be detail-focused, collaborative, and able to work effectively in demanding underground conditions.
To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
- Underground blasting certificate (region-specific)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground mining operations
- Proficiency in blast design software and data analysis tools
- Strong understanding of explosives, drilling techniques and mine safety regulations
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
It would be beneficial if you have:
- French language skills
- Experience in longhole open stoping
- Membership of a recognised mining industry professional body
- Experience with flat dipping ore bodies
- Use of iKons or equivalent electronic detonators
- Previous West African experience
Where You’ll be Working
Yaouré Gold Mine is Perseus’s third operation, located in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. The mine commenced production in December 2020 and achieved Commercial Production in March 2021. In September 2023, the operational life was extended through to at least 2035.
The mine is expected to produce approximately 210,000 ounces of gold annually over the next five years, with an average AISC of US$1,104. Perseus is expanding operations with the upcoming CMA Underground Project, Côte d’Ivoire’s first mechanised underground mine, which is scheduled to commence in mid-2025 and extend the life of operations.
