The Role
Perseus Mining is seeking a Group Manager Processing, Infrastructure and Tailings to provide management, technical expertise and technical oversight of activities related to metallurgy, process plants, infrastructure and tailings storage facilities for Perseus’s existing operations, as well as organic and inorganic growth activities including but not limited to concept, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, due diligences, and significant operational improvement projects. The Group Manager Processing, Infrastructure and Tailings is also responsible for conducting pre-tax financial modelling and economic evaluation for operational plans, studies, due diligences, and significant operational improvement projects in consultation with the Finance Team.
Based in our Perth office as part of the corporate Technical Services and Studies team, you will work across multiple assets and studies.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and resource support to the Group Metallurgist and Group Tailings & Water Manager, ensuring effective delivery of operational support and operational readiness initiatives across the business.
- Ensure that technical standards are active, regularly reviewed, and that compliance activities are completed within the required timeframe to manage risk relevant to metallurgy, process plants, and tailings storage facilities. Ensure that audit outcomes and risk ratings are updated and reflected in Company risk management software.
- Partner with operations and corporate teams to develop robust technical justifications and budget allocations for process plant improvement projects, tailings storage facility staged developments, compliance programs, and specialist consulting services, ensuring corporate support activities are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Ensure that a robust and documented process occurs whereby process and tailings physical parameters, operating cost parameters, and capital cost parameters are peer reviewed and approved for use in Company business planning processes.
- Support business growth and study activities by developing technically sound scopes and budgets for metallurgical test work, process plant and infrastructure design, tailings storage facility design, compliance programs, and associated consulting services, ensuring successful execution within approved timelines and budgets.
- Lead the metallurgical, processing, infrastructure, and tailings workstreams for concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies, as well as due diligence activities, driving planning, coordination, execution, and reporting to achieve agreed project outcomes.
- Identify metallurgical risks, challenges, and opportunities throughout study and due diligence processes, ensuring appropriate test work programs are designed and executed to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with geology teams to develop fit-for-purpose geometallurgical models where metallurgical risk, geological complexity, or ore variability warrants enhanced technical understanding.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate strong technical expertise, high attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Science or Engineering in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering (or equivalent)
- A minimum of 10-15 years’ relevant experience in all of the following;
- process plant operations/management
- tailings storage facility operations/management
- process plant and infrastructure design
- project management experience, including scheduling, budgeting and costing
- direct management of a team of technically focused direct reports.
- Knowledge of legislation compliance matters, codes of practice and other reporting requirements
- Ability to balance innovation, quality and technical excellence with delivery to timelines and cost.
- Ability to consider short-term business needs, as well as future and strategic focused objectives.
- Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders from different cultures.
- A strong commitment to health, safety and environment.
- A high level of competency at utilising the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Relevant experience in African mining projects
It would be beneficial if you have:
- Experience in gold processing plants
- Working experience with developing and maintaining compliance systems.
- A qualification or demonstrated capability in mineral economic evaluation and/or financial modelling.
- Fellow or Chartered Professional of a recognised technical organisation (e.g., AusIMM, SAIMM, CIM), enabling the incumbent to act as a Qualified Person for NI 43-101 technical reports relevant to their experience.
Where you’ll be working
This position is based in Perseus’ Subiaco office, with a corporate team of 60 employees. You’ll join a small corporate team, allowing for close interactions across all departments and levels of the business.
