Perseus Mining are seeking an Underground Ventilation Engineer to join the underground mining team at our Yaoure site, based in West Africa. This role is responsible for ensuring effective ventilation designs and systems that maintain air quality, reduce risks, and comply with environmental and safety regulations, playing a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our underground mine. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, and as part of the project team for the CMA Underground Project, this role will
- Design, implement, and monitor underground ventilation systems to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
- Conduct airflow analysis and ventilation modelling to assess airflow dynamics and improve ventilation effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations related to ventilation in underground operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve ventilation strategies for development and production areas.
- Troubleshoot and resolve ventilation-related issues promptly to maintain optimal conditions.
- Provide training and guidance to the operations team on best practices for ventilation system management.
- Regularly conduct ventilation audits and system reviews to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- A degree in Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (4+ years) in underground ventilation system design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of ventilation principles, health, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in mine planning, operational efficiency, and compliance management.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in underground open stope mining operations.
- Mining Engineer with experience in a similar role.
- Work experience in West African Region.
Located within West Africa, Yaouré Gold Mine is Perseus’s third operation, commencing production in December 2020. Achieving Commercial Production in March 2021, Yaouré’s operational life was extended to at least 2035 in September 2023. The mine is anticipated to yield approximately 210,000 ounces of gold annually over the next five years.
