Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited Company is seeking a TSF & Water Management Superintendent.
Reporting to the Processing Manager within the Processing Department, you will be responsible for the management, operation and construction of the assigned tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and associated infrastructure, such as surface water management infrastructure, in accordance with the Perseus Tailings Management Standard and related site and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all tailings management activities are undertaken safely.
- Ensure all tailings management activities (construction, operations, maintenance, monitoring, closure, and compliance activities) are undertaken in accordance with the Perseus Tailings Management Standard as the formally appointed RTFE.
- Liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all construction, operation, maintenance, monitoring, closure, and compliance activities are completed to the required standard and within the required timeframe to meet company objectives.
- Compile and manage budgets, forecasts, and technical justifications for capital and operating expenditure associated with tailings projects.
- Manage and provide input into TSF investigations, studies, designs, operations and construction activities where appropriate.
- Ensure construction works are undertaken in accordance with the construction drawings and specifications.
- Ensure all required quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) activities are undertaken and recorded during construction.
- Ensure works at the TSF are undertaken in accordance with the contract, including technical, schedule and commercial components.
- Provide inputs into the Emergency Action and Response Plan (EARP) and facilitate mock exercises.
- Provide inputs into Tailings Management Plans (TMPs) and Tailings Life of Mine (LOM) Plans.
- Provide inputs to dam break and consequence assessments.
- Provide inputs into the Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance Manual (OMS Manual) and Trigger Action and Response Plans (TARPs).
- Ensure inspections are completed and recorded as required and report any issues or concerns.
- Provide information required for Quarterly TSF reviews as requested by the Group Tailings and Water Manager.
About You
To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Science, in a discipline relevant to tailings science, engineering and management (e.g., Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering).
- Not less than 8 Years experience in a similar position in tailings and water management projects in Ghana or elsewhere in Africa.
- Processing Superintendent Certificate of Competency issued by the Ghanaian Minerals Commission (Mincom).
- Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing at all levels of the organisation.
- Detailed knowledge of the Minerals and Mining (Safety, Health and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182) and related legislation, and how they apply with respect to TSFs.
- Established experience interfacing with the Ghanaian Minerals Commission (Mincom) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with regards to facility permitting and compliance related to construction, operations and closure.
- Ability to use enterprise management software (PRONTO) and INX In-Control Safety Management systems
- Knowledge of ANCOLD, ICMM, GISTM and other relevant tailings standards, and guidelines.
- Good data management and analytical skills.
Where You’ll Be Working
Edikan Gold Mine is Perseus Mining’s first operation, located in Ghana’s Western Region. Since commencing operations in 2011, it has become a cornerstone of Perseus’s portfolio, with processing capacity expanded from 5.5Mtpa at design to 7.2Mtpa in 2016.
The mine produces between 180,000 and 220,000 ounces of gold each year and is fully nationalized, operated entirely by Ghanaian employees. This reflects Perseus’s long-term commitment to developing local capability and providing sustainable employment.
Ongoing optimisation and exploration programs continue to extend Edikan’s mine life, ensuring it delivers strong returns and lasting value to host communities.
