Supervisor Maintenance Trainer
Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Supervisor Maintenance Training.
Reporting to the (Maintenance Manager), The role of the Supervisor Maintenance Training exists to ensure that all Fixed Plant mechanical, fabrication, welding, electrical and Instrumentation, planning, reliability, condition monitoring and mobile maintenance training has been undertaken efficiently in an organised cost effective, environmentally friendly and safe manner. To develop, coordinate, implement and train local, national and expatriate employees and contractors as per training calendars / schedules against the Annual Site Training Plan, Training Matrix and Training Needs Analysis (TNA). This position will also schedule vendors training from time to time for employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of Safety, Environment & Community Relations.
- Lead the Maintenance Training team in becoming increasingly compliant with site and corporate safety and environmental controls and regulations and competency development.
- Supervise team members to formally report all hazards, incidents and near-miss events that occur and conduct timely investigations when required
- Lead efforts to ensure that effective controls are in place for safe systems of work and effective environmental management
- Lead site initiatives to improve the site training systems
- Meet or exceed all Safety Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets such as Lost Time Injuries, Job Safety Observations, and Audits.
- Promote a safe and environmentally friendly working culture through demonstrated personal behaviour and commitment to safety and the environment, leading by example and initiating good practices.
People Management
- Manage the performance of direct reports through training, coaching, consistent performance feedback, annual appraisals and recognition to help facilitate their professional development and improve operating efficiencies
- Review suitability and effectiveness of training programs and recommend options for improvement
- Communicate policies and procedures in a manner that achieves full understanding and compliance.
- Provide guidance and coaching to trainees, graduates, and apprentice employees.
- A team player with the ability to work and communicate with all levels of people on site.
- Be cognisant of cultural and educational differences when training, assessing and mentoring maintenance personnel and contractors.
Operations
- To develop, coordinate, implement and train local, national and expatriate employees and contractors as per annual site training plan, training calendars / schedules against the (TNA’s) Training Needs Analysis within the correct time frames. Schedule vendors training from time to time as required.
- Ensure that plans are in place so that the SMCL teams have a trained skilled workforce to meet the future needs and localisation targets of SMCL and is carried out in accordance with the SMCL guidelines and Tanzanian laws.
- Administer, review and provide some assistance and guidelines regarding the training annual budget in the development of SMCL’s Operating and Capital Budget, in order to ensure the training budget is able to support the Business Plan.
- Liaise with departmental and contracting personnel to achieve current and to determine future training requirements.
- Assist Supervisors / Trainers to develop and implement training programs for all Maintenance employees technical and non-technical.Â
Education Qualifications:
- Undergraduate bachelor’s degree. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Education.
- Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance related practical experience in a Process Plant or Mobile Equipment discipline. E&I, Fixed Plant Mechanical, Mobile Mechanical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of three (3) years of training related experience will be highly regarded.
- High level competency in Microsoft computer applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to communicate to groups and organization skills to assist the maintenance teams for all required training programs including Practical field coaching, On Job Training (OJT), Face to Face classroom theory sessions and coordination of external vendor training events.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and consultation skills
- Excellent skill in job analysis and report writing
Desirable:
- Mechanical or Fabrication/Welding or Electrical & Instrumentation qualifications.
- A recognized adult training qualification. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent will be highly regarded.
- ICAM certification will be highly regarded
- English language skills will be highly regarded.

Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus’s first planned operation in Tanzania, located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields. A Final Investment Decision was made in April 2025, with first gold production targeted for early 2027.
The project places strong emphasis on sustainability and local development, with programs dedicated to employment, skills training, infrastructure, and long-term social outcomes. Once operational, Nyanzaga is expected to become a key contributor to Perseus’s future growth and a flagship project in East Africa
