Coordinator Plant Mechanical Maintenance

LOCATION: Nyanzaga Mine Site, Tanzania

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Coordinator Plant Mechanical Maintenance.

Reporting to the (Maintenance Manager), The Coordinator Plant Mechanical Maintenance is responsible to Step-Up as required to cover for the Superintendent Plant Mechanical Maintenance for the management of site maintenance activities and personnel. The areas of responsibility include the process plant and power station. This position requires the management of all maintenance personnel, systems and equipment to achieve high levels of equipment availability and equipment integrity in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations

  • Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding safety, environment, health and community.
  • Lead site initiatives to improve the understanding of equipment safety
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that safety standards with respect to equipment and installations are maintained across relevant areas of responsibility
  • Ensure site maintenance activities are compliant with Perseus OHS&E and community relations policies and procedures
  • Ensure maintenance personnel are aware of their HSE responsibilities and hold them accountable through the site management and disciplinary process
  • Understand the Ivorian Mining Regulations with respect to engineering and safety requirements
  • Actively participate in relevant Incident investigations
  • Be aware of the sensitivity of relations with the community and how employment issues can affect relationships with the local community

People Management

  • Step-Up as required to manage and lead the Maintenance team performance, ensuring quality outcomes and procedural adherence
  • Lead by example whilst maintaining the ability to work under intense pressure, upholding team principles and providing positive direction
  • Provide personnel coaching, succession planning and conflict resolution as required
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a formal training and assessment program for maintenance personnel
  • Step-Up as required to manage the performance of direct reports through training, coaching, consistent performance feedback, annual appraisals and recognition to help facilitate their professional development and improve the operating efficiencies of production personnel

Operations

  • Step-Up as required to take overall responsibility to plan, lead and control all site maintenance activities
  • Step-Up as required to manage and supervise as necessary to ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in an efficient, safe and timely manner
  • Step-Up as required to manage the induction and training of engineering personnel
  • Participate to develop and implement Safe Work Procedures for Maintenance activities
  • Step-Up as required for Plant Availability and Downtime compliance and maintenance KPI reporting
  • Participate to the management of maintenance assets through the Pronto Maintenance Management System
  • Value add by leading with reliability identification and improvement methods
  • Attend relevant business meetings as directed by the Process Manager to understand proactive long-term operational priorities and build forecast equipment down time business models
  • Continually search for methods to improve existing maintenance practices that fit within the business model and targets
  • Participate to develop a maintenance management system focused on measurement of incremental continuous improvement. Maintain the continuous improvement project development program
  • Minimise processing costs whilst maintaining/exceeding mill availability targets
  • Assist with the management and development of operational budgets and forecasts
  • Completion, processing and management of direct personnel documentation, leave entitlements and training programmes
  • Any other duties as requested

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade qualifications from an internationally regarded institution, mechanical trade preferred
  • International driving licence
  • Recognised Tertiary Engineering qualification or equivalent (desired)
  • Supervisory qualifications i.e., Frontline management (desired)
  • Business/organisational processes (desired)
  • Technical qualifications relevant to processing plant equipment and systems (desired)
  • Condition monitoring and lubrication (desired)
  • Safety qualifications (desired)
  • First Aid certificate (desired)
  • Operating tickets including crane operator, other itinerant plant, lifting and rigging, etc. (desired)
  • Formal training and assessment qualifications (desired)

Additional Information:

  • Prepared to undertake external training to complement the operation.
  • Incumbent may be expected to work outside Normal Working Hours on occasions.
  • Incumbent will from time to time be required to travel on company business.

Where You’ll Be Working

Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus’s first planned operation in Tanzania, located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields. A Final Investment Decision was made in April 2025, with first gold production targeted for early 2027.

The project places strong emphasis on sustainability and local development, with programs dedicated to employment, skills training, infrastructure, and long-term social outcomes. Once operational, Nyanzaga is expected to become a key contributor to Perseus’s future growth and a flagship project in East Africa
